Character Hall of Fame: Mal Reynolds

Always with his space-revolver at the ready and with good looks and charm that could make Han Solo blush, Mal heads the crew of the Firefly, an honourable thief, of some renown.

Brief History:

As a survivor of a war of independence between the Browncoats and the Alliance, he found it difficult to adjust to life when the freedom fighters lost. Soon the the gavel of bureaucracy fell and swiftly the reign of underhanded politics and ridiculously controlling right-wing policies began. As a war-hero with a supreme hatred for all things Alliance, there was nothing other than thievery left but as a man of some honour he cemented a place in our hearts as a killer with a heart of gold.

Everything about this character is rag-tag. He is the unorthodox sheriff that every good western needs, in space!

Running for only one series, Firefly has a massive cult following and is known by fans as one of Joss Whedon's greatest works. The film, Serenity, was also excellent and brought the fear of the outer-rim space mutants, "reavers" into the nightmares of all.

The show itself is a definite 5/5 and a must see for any science fiction fan!
